Manifesto for Agile Development of Democracy: Translations

Our vision is to bring the Manifesto for Agile Development of Democracy to the rest of the world!
This Manifesto is the root of development of Democracy in the XXI century, made by the citizens, and for the citizens. As Agile Democracy adoption is spreading all over the world we want this manifesto to be available in all languages. We’ve created dedicated pages on our web site and started with translations in english and italian (just to start somewhere), now the gates are wide open for more translators :o)

Call for translators!

  • Are you fluent in two different languages ? or
  • Are you experienced with other content translation, for example books & articles & blogs ? or
  • Are you experienced with Agile politics and citizen movements (Indignés, Indignados, Democracie Reelle Maintenant, Democracia Real Ya....) ? or
  • Are you well connected with your local Agile citizens community ? or
  • Are you willing to spend the necessary time collaborating with your local Agile citizen community to iteratively create a translation that they will support ?
  • And are you willing to do the work for free? You will of course be credited for your work.
If so, you are the ideal person to translate this Manifesto ! Please contact us.

Get involved

There’s no public discussion group for everyone involved in translation, at the moment. You are welcome to create one!

Why translate this manifesto?

This Manifesto is important to change how the public policies are defined. It is intended as a realization of the necessary effort to further democratization of our national and European politics, and to the relearning of the political commitment of the citizen, without which any proposed improvement of the society benefiting to most of the people will quickly be challenged. Since most people in the world don’t speak english, french or italian, we are now focusing on internationalization.

Which parts of the manifesto are translated?

Each translation includes the 4 values (front page of the manifesto) and the 12 principles . Optionnaly, some of them include also the "Why this manifesto" section.

How are translations done in practice?

Each translator can start the work using the currently officially available translations (french, english, italian), together with the page where the Manifesto for Agile Development of Software is already translated in your target language (see list at the bottom of this page), because of the very similar structure, by design.
We plan to set up a community where translators of different languages can support each other in this process.

How is quality ensured?

We can’t ensure quality of the translations, since we don’t speak every language in the world. We will therefore focus on the quality of the translator. For the time being this is an informal process based on seeking a chain of trust between the director of this program and the translator. We will also seek a lead reviewer for each translation.
No translation is perfect. Trade-offs will need to be made, guided by these priorities:
Priority 1: Close to the French or English-language originals
Priority 2: Easy to read & understand for wide audience
Priority 3: Grammar & correct use of language
If you would like to propose an improvement to an existing translation feel free to get in touch .
